Marian is a Registered Clinical Psychologist with decades of experience in the mental health field. She provides psychological treatment for a wide range of mental health conditions in children, adolescents, and adults. Marian has special interests and expertise in working with individuals experiencing psychological and existential distress related to health conditions, as well as individuals navigating significant losses in life, such as the loss of loved ones, roles or functioning, meaning, or self-confidence.
Recognizing the interconnectedness of psychological and physical well-being, Marian adopts a holistic approach to treatment. She utilizes evidence-based therapy approaches tailored to the unique needs and goals of each patient. These approaches include acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), compassion-focused therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), grief counselling, and mindfulness-based interventions. Marian has completed foundational training as a mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) teacher and received specialized teacher training in mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) for cancer.
Through her practice, Marian has witnessed how self-criticism can contribute to increased mental, emotional, and physical suffering among individuals. She, therefore, aspires to integrate a compassion-focused approach into her therapy sessions, helping her patients to cultivate a more harmonious relationship with themselves, so as to alleviate their suffering while enhancing intrapersonal well-being.
Marian currently serves as a Clinical Psychologist at Hong Kong’s largest cancer support organization, where she leads psychotherapeutic groups and conducts individual consultations for patients and their families. Prior to this role, Marian worked for "Improving Access to Psychological Therapies" under the National Health Service (NHS) of the UK. During her training in Singapore, Marian pioneered CBT-based mental health paraprofessional training for foreign domestic workers, marking the first of its kind in the country. Additionally, she has extensive experience working with psychosis patients through her involvement in the "Hong Kong Jockey Club Early Psychosis" project. Marian's multicultural background and international experience have endowed her with a deep sense of sensitivity and understanding when working with patients from diverse cultures and nationalities.
