The Hong Kong Comprehensive Assessment Scales for Preschool Children (HKCAS-P)

  • Assess the performance and needs of training in seven developmental areas in pre-school children, including cognitive, language, social cognition, visual perception, fine motor, gross motor, early literacy, and numeracy.
  • Based on children's needs, refer to relevant services provided by Social Welfare Department, including Early Education and Training Centre (EETC), Integrated Child Care Centre (ICCC), Special Child Care Centre (SCCC) and On-site Preschool Rehabilitation Services (OPRS).

Conducted by educational psychologist/clinical psychologist

Preschool Children Aged 3 years 4 months to 6 years 3 months
Main assessment tool

Battelle Developmental Inventory – Second Edition (BDI-II) or equivalent standardized assessment tool
Service details

1. Parent and case interview before assessment (about 45 minutes)
2. Professional assessment
3. Post-assessment feedback session to explain the findings and consultation (~45 mins)
4. Parent summary or full psychological report
5. Refer to the Social Welfare Department (Form 2) if necessary
